Orel State University, officially named after I.S. Turgenev, is a renowned government medical university established in 1931 and located on the Oka River in Oryol City, about 325 km from Moscow. It was first recognised as a Classical University and later granted Key University status by the Russian government in 2016.

The university is administered under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, with a proven history of excellence especially in medicine.
